Announcements
April 2017
Dear Parents and Families,

I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing Spring Break! I cannot believe we are approaching the end of the school year so soon. The fourth and final marking period has begun and soon enough your children will be heading off to middle school. It is such an exciting time for everyone. Don't forget about all of the wonderful 6th grade culminating activities that will be taking place over the next two months: the 6th grade cruise, the yearbook breakfast, the end of the year dance, and the Moving Up Ceremony.

Before any of those great activities can happen, we need to finish up our curriculum and complete PARCC testing. Just a reminder, 6th graders will be taking the PARCC test from April 28th - May 5th. Make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast and gets a good nights sleep before coming to school. Also, if your child has his/her own headphones to use during the test those should be brought in during testing days.

Your children have been working diligently all year to prepare for this test. Here are some examples of things we have been working on to prepare:

Math:
  • Multiplying and dividing decimals and whole numbers
  • Comparing fractions
  • Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions
  • Multi-step word problems
Writing:
  • Responding to various styled writing prompts
  • Compare and Contrast essay
  • Research Task Analysis
Reading:
  • Using the text to make predictions and inferences
  • Summarizing texts
  • Using context clues to understand what we read
  • Reading and responsing to prompts
Science:
  • Diversity of Life
Social Studies:
  • Continuing studying earliest civilizations of people

Your child has made so much progress over the course of the year and I cannot wait to see how much more each student learns during this final marking period. As always, if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me via email (nsheridan@flboe.com) or phone (201-585-4612 ext. 2646). Thank you!

Sincerely,

Ms. Nicole Sheridan

Paperwork and Supplies
Dear Parents/Guardians,

It has been a pleasure getting to know your children over the past two days. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year!
Please make sure that you fill out all Emergency Forms and Annual Student Information forms as soon as possible and send them into school with your child.
Also, please make sure your child has enough notebooks and folders for the school year. We are going to be diving into our curriculum over the next few days. They need at least 6 notebooks: 1 Math notebook, 1 Reading/Writing notebook, 1 Spelling notebook, 1 Science/Social Studies notebook, 1 Spanish notebook, and 1 Music notebook.

Thank you!

Ms. Nicole Sheridan
Welcome Letter
September 6, 2016

Dear Parents and/or Guardians,

Welcome to 6th grade and the 2016-2017 school year! My name is Ms. Nicole Sheridan and I am looking forward to an exciting and productive year with you and your child. I graduated from The College of New Jersey where I earned my Masterís degree in Special Education. Teaching is what I love to do and I promise to be fully committed to ensuring that your child has a positive learning experience in the classroom.

I believe that all children have the ability to learn and as the teacher it is my job to figure out the best way for each student in my class to learn. My goal is to help all of my students reach their full potential. I believe in a cooperative learning environment where students all work together using their individual and unique strengths to create a sense of community within the classroom. Therefore, it is expected that all students will be responsible and respectful of themselves, their peers, and their classroom.

I am excited to form and maintain new parent-teacher relationships throughout the year to ensure that your child is receiving everything he/she needs to succeed. I will keep our class Fusion page updated with daily homework assignments and classroom updates to keep you as informed as possible. In addition, you will hear more information about our curriculum and class procedures during Back to School Night on Thursday, September 15th, 2016 at 7pm.

Please remind your child that in sixth grade it is expected that all students have a strong awareness of their independence and responsibility. It is the studentís responsibility to be organized and prepared for school. Students are expected to complete their homework every night. I will never assign homework on a new topic; it will always reflect what was taught in class that day. Please encourage your child to complete all of their assignments independently so that they come to school prepared and ready to continue their learning experience. Additionally, any quizzes, tests, or projects will be announced with advanced notice. Students will have to maintain an updated planner to keep track of all of their assignments.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child in any way, please contact me via email (nsheridan@flboe.com) or phone (201-858-4630 ext. 2646). However, if you need to leave a message about your childís dismissal or have any type of emergency, please contact the main office. Once again, I am looking forward to a wonderful school year with you and your child. Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to your childís education!

Sincerely,

Ms. Nicole Sheridan
